Hobbies

MUSIC...... I LOVE music and want to be surrounded by it whenever I can. I play guitar, and sing in a couple local groups but I am always looking to try new instruments (just recently Claire and I have been digging into synthesizer and basic sequencer/samplers). I also avidly collect records (not for value or collectability, but for listening enjoyment), and am verging on the 500 album mark. I appreciate listening to an album straight through and that record players encourage people to be in a comfy, shared space together for a fixed amount of time.

Food plays a huge part in my life. I am always looking for new food to try, spicier peppers to eat, and new techniques to learn. This past year I have been digging into home fermentation and the live culture scene. Besides fermenting my own hot sauces, sauerkraut, and giardiniera, I've been maintaining and bottling my own kombucha weekly!

I am not big into watching sports, but I love to play. I played lacrosse since middle school, but can't find any action out here. You may see me some Sundays at the mall playing men's league hockey though (I've been on skates for over 20 years now!).

I love strategy games and RPG's like Dungeons and Dragons, T.I.M.E. Stories, Unlock!, 7 wonders, Caverna, etc. In general I like to be creative and active. I am always looking for new fun things to do, so feel free to talk to me about anything fun that is going on, there is a good chance that I will be interested in it.

Courses Taken That Relate Childcare

I have my Elementary Education teaching certification with endorsements in Social Studies and Music, as well as having a B.A. in Literature, Science and the Arts (most of those arts were music classes). I have taken a number of courses for the program over the years concerned with nutrition, being active, and cooperative games.

Babysitting

Sorry guys, with three bands, hockey and all the hours spent at the program, I don't have time to babysit right now.

Childcare Experience

I began working here in January of 2005. Under the tutelage of Ruth Manna (the former director) I became certified to direct and have been the head honcho since 2009. I grew up working summer camps and always thought that those were the best jobs ever, so I gravitated back this way and have been here ever since.

Oh, By The Way...

Claire and I got a black lab mix named Gunnar from the adoption center last summer. We love him tremendously, but he is quite a bundle of energy.

Finally, I love my job. I was never sure that I would find something that was so fun, challenging and rewarding, so rest assured that I will be sticking around for a while. Thanks for all of the goods times and support, Shimek is a wonderful community to work with.
